Gateway 36 Newsletter No 6

19 March 2021

Gateway 36 Newsletter No 6 Week commencing Monday 22nd March. First published Friday 19th March.

Welcome to the Gateway 36 e-newsletter. Each fortnight, these e-newsletters will provide you with updates on progress, traffic management and any potential disruption surrounding the Gateway 36 development in Rockingham. Please note these works will be ongoing until Summer 2021.

Progress, the past two weeks

Traffic management measures have been in place on Dearne Valley Parkway Westbound from Monday 11th January to enable the construction of a new access road off Shortwood Roundabout.

Works have continued to form this new entrance off Shortwood Roundabout is nearing completion despite several setbacks due to a sustained period of adverse weather. We hope to achieve the completion of this access road by the end of March following the installation of ducting, kerbs, gullies, and street lighting columns, the placement and compaction of stone, tarmac surfacing and white lining.

Upon completion, temprary traffic management measures will be removed from this area and all construction traffic for the site will use this route for access and agress.

We are hopeful that this will minimise disruption to local residents.

We have continued works to prepare for the formation the new S278 roundabout which will facilitate Phase 3 of the Gateway 36 scheme adjacent to the east-bound Dearne Valley Parkway. Earthworks have been undertaken on phase 3 whilst surface water drainage is being installed on phase 2 as we advance with prepapration for the formation of the new roundabout.

On the main Gateway 36 development, we have successfully installed an outfall from the new attenuation pond and headwalls into the existing highway ditch.

Major earthworks are ongoing - we hope to complete these works in summer 2021.

The next two weeks

Once the new access road off of Shortwood Roundabout is complete, traffic management measures will move further down Dearne Valley Parkway westbound to allow for the formtion of the new S278 roundabout. This new traffic management layout will be in place for a significant period of time whilst we construct the new roundabout. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused thorughout the duration of these works. Please contact RTS on 01724 848 246  if you should notice an out of hours emergency with the traffic management on Dearne Valley Parkway during this period.

As we continue to prepare for the formation of the new S278 roundabout, earthworks and the installation of surface water drainage will progress including pre-cast concrete headwalls and 600mm concrete pipes which will collect surface water from the new roundabout once complete.

On site, earthworks and work to form the two new attenuation ponds will continue. Works to lay the pond liner and topsoil for both ponds are scheduled to be complete in April.

All works are scheduled to be complete for Summer 2021.
