Gateway 36 Newsletter No 19

29 October 2021

Gateway 36 Newsletter No 19 Week commencing Monday 1st November. First published Friday 29th October.

Welcome to the Gateway 36 e-newsletter. Each month, these e-newsletters will provide you with updates on progress, traffic management and any potential disruption surrounding the Gateway 36 development in Rockingham. Please note that due to delays on behalf of Yorkshire Water, works will be ongoing until autumn 2021.

Progress, the past four weeks

Following a change in traffic management on the new roundabout on Dearne Valley Parkway, we have advanced works to form the central area of the roundabout which will provide access into the third phase of the Gateway 36 development.

Over the past two weekends, we have been working through the night to prepare and place tarmac surfacing with the hope that these working hours would minimise disruption to road users and local residents.

Ahead of these surfacing works, we laid kerbs, prepared the central island of the roundabout for placement of decorative gravel, and completed both the eastern and western traffic islands ready for tarmac.

We have also removed the existing street lighting columns which were formerly located in the middle of what will be the new roundabout and diverted the existing low-voltage electric feed which supplied the now-redundant streetlights.

As part of the works for phase 3 of the Gateway 36 development, we are also constructing an access road for future use including kerbing and forming the new footpaths ahead of laying tarmac.

The vehicle restraint barrier alongside the new carriage way is also complete.

The next four weeks

Work to form the new roundabout into phase 3 of the development will continue over the next month as we advance the completion of these works.

The current traffic management layout will remain in place throughout the next four weeks. Vehicles will be diverted onto the new section of roundabout to allow us to complete our works along Dearne Valley Parkway. Please follow the signs and speed limits in place.

Until Sunday 7th November, Dearne Valley Parkway will be closed from Rockingham Roundabout to Shortwood Roundabout for surfacing works on weekends (Saturdays 9pm – 6am, Sundays 7pm – 6am).

These time slots have been chosen in order to minimise disruption on Dearne Valley Parkway for daytime commuters. Please follow the diversion signs on display whilst these works are being undertaken.

Should you experience or witness an out-of-hours emergency regarding the traffic management measures in place, please call RTS on 01724 848 246.

All works are scheduled to be complete for autumn 2021.
