Gateway 36 Newsletter No 13

25 June 2021

Gateway 36 Newsletter No 12 Week commencing Monday 28th June. First published Friday 25th June.

Welcome to the Gateway 36 e-newsletter. Each fortnight, these e-newsletters will provide you with updates on progress, traffic management and any potential disruption surrounding the Gateway 36 development in Rockingham. Please note these works will be ongoing until Summer 2021.

Progress, the past two weeks

We have continued to form the new S278 roundabout along the western side of Dearne Valley Parkway which will facilitate entry to Phase 3 of the Gateway 36 scheme. Traffic management measures to close lanes remain in place in this area.

We have installed the vast majority of kerbs, which means passers-by will be able to see a clear outline of the new roundabout.

Major earthworks have continued on the main development of site and are nearing completion whereby the desired development plateau levels will be achieved. This also includes the construction of a large, reinforced earth embankment around the highest development plateau. We have also commenced reusing and recycling material on site which was previously deemed unsuitable. This includes undertaking on-site processing to make it acceptable for use as a fill material.

The next two weeks

Over the next two weeks, work to form the new S278 roundabout will continue on both sides of Dearne Valley Parkway as we prepare the new carriageway for surfacing in July.

Works will include the installation of kerbing, and ducting for incoming services utilities and diversions. Tarmac can then be laid, followed by the installation of street lighting columns, road signage, and temporary white lining. We will also facilitate the diversion of high voltage cables and a water main to suit the new roundabout layout. The utility diversion works are scheduled to commence next week and will continue throughout July.

Once the works described above are complete, traffic will then switch over to the new formed route whilst we continue work on the central section to form the new roundabout on Dearne Valley Parkway.

Earthworks will continue on Phase 2 of the main development, as will the construction of the reinforced earth embankment and on site processing. We are also hopeful to commence some more earthworks to the development plateaus on Phase 3 to the north of Dearne Valley Parkway in the near future.

This new traffic management layout will be in place long-term whilst work to construct the new roundabout is ongoing.

Should you experience or witness an out-of-hours emergency regarding the traffic management measures in place, please call RTS on 01724 848 246.

All works are scheduled to be complete for summer 2021.
