Germany Beck

Newsletter 26

30 May 2017

Weeks 51 & 52 commencing Tuesday 30th May 2017

This is the 26th edition of the newsletter that keeps you up to date with the progress of the Germany Beck junction works on the A19 in Fulford.

During the past 2 weeks we have been completing the construction of the capping beam along the top of the piles.

We have imported further stone to lift the area of the junction adjacent to the A19 to the underside of carriageway construction.

We have placed topsoil to the carriageway embankments and prepared for the water main and gas diversions that are planned for next week.

We have laid BT ducting and traffic signal ducting within the footpaths and across the new carriageway.

During the next 2 weeks we will be carrying out 2 service diversions -

• The water main diversion on the A19 will be carried out by contractors on behalf of YW requiring 24hr traffic lights on the A19. Works will commence on Tuesday 30th May and are due to be completed by the end of Saturday 3rd June

• The gas diversion on Fordlands Road will be laid and connected by contractors working on behalf of Northern Gas Networks. No traffic lights will be required, however please heed the signs showing traffic travelling south down Fordlands Road having priority over traffic travelling north. Access will be maintained for pedestrians.

The closure of the eastern footpath on the A19 remains in place.

WARNING - USE OF 24HR TEMPORARY TRAFFIC LIGHTS ON THE A19 FROM TUESDAY 30TH MAY UNTIL SATURDAY 3RD JUNE INCLUSIVE

A number of service diversions will be taking place that will impact the A19 over the coming weeks. These include the diversion of water mains, gas mains, electric cables and BT and other communication cables and fibres.

The diversions are required because some of them lie too close to the proposed sheet piled wall to the west of the A19. Other diversions are required because they need to be lifted to suit the new level of the junction.

Some of the service diversions require long trenches to be opened up and large 'pits' to be excavated within the carriageway of the A19 where joints are to be carried out. The jointing pits have to remain open for several days while the joints are carried out. Unfortunately this means that 24hr temporary traffic lights are required to be set up on the A19 during this period.

This will inevitably lead to major disruption of the traffic using this route. Peak hour traffic is expected to be considerably worse than usual, impacting not only the A19 but the surrounding road network.

On Tuesday 30th May the water main diversion will commence and will take 5 days.

The use of 24 hr traffic lights on the A19 will commence at 9am on Tuesday 30th May. The temporary lights will remain in place until the evening of Saturday 3rd June.

Advance warning signs will be erected several days in advance of the works commencing

I would advise you to seek alternative routes during this period although I appreciate that this will not be possible for local residents and businesses.

Provision for pedestrians and others using the footpaths will be maintained during these operations. Please follow the directions provided by the signs

We apologise for any inconvenience for those delayed due to the traffic lights caused by these necessary works.

Safety for children and the wider public.

Please be assured that the different areas of works will be securely fenced at all times to ensure the safety of the public.

We will be receiving deliveries to site this week. Each delivery will be guided into site by one of our employees once traffic and pedestrians are clear from the site entrance. Please be patient if you are held up for a short time whilst these manoeuvres take place.

Pedestrians will be given right of way along the footpaths of Fordlands Road but please be aware of deliveries using the entrances to site off Fordlands Road on occasion.
