St James Retail Park - Bochum Parkway

Bochum Parkway Newsletter 5

17 July 2017

Newsletter No 5. Week commencing Monday 17th July. Weeks 8 and 9

This is the 5th edition of the newsletter that will keep you up to date with the progress of the road works on Bochum Parkway.

During the last 2 weeks we have continued our work to form the new site entrance; laying kerbs to pedestrian refuge, installing ducts for the power cable diversion and new traffic signals and placing stone to the carriageway. We've also been preparing the adjacent footpath for Tarmac to be placed in the coming weeks.

At the western entrance to Norton Lane we have excavated for the new carriageway and pruned back some vegetation to enable us to make drainage connections in the grass verge.
The installation of the new drainage kerb to Meadowhead Roundabout continues during Sunday lane closures.

The next 2 weeks

Retail Park entrance

We will be continuing construction of the new footpath and entrance with the installation of the new drainage system ahead of tarmac being laid later this month. Once tarmac has been placed pedestrians will be directed onto the newly formed footpath to enable the filter lane off Bochum Parkway to be constructed. The new footway will be indicated by signage and safety barriers.

Meadowhead Roundabout

Works to widen the existing carriageway around the roundabout will continue this Sunday and following Sundays. We'll continue to install the new drainage kerbs and carry out alterations to the existing drainage scheme. The existing chevron signs will be relocated to behind the new kerb line.

Norton Lane adjacent to Meadowhead Roundabout.

Works to this area will continue with drainage installation and carriageway construction. This access will remain closed for the next few months.

Temporary Traffic Management likely to impact traffic

***NEW*** - WEEKDAY LANE CLOSURES ON BOCHUM PARKWAY AND APPROACHES TO MEADOWHEAD ROUNDABOUT FROM WEEK COMMENCING MONDAY 24TH JULY

From week commencing Monday 24th July lane closures will be in place during weekdays from 9am to 4.30pm. The affected roads will remain open in all directions. This is to enable works adjacent to the live carriageway to be carried out safely. This is likely to impact the traffic using Bochum Parkway and the surrounding areas. Please allow extra time for your journeys through the area or seek alternative routes.

***NEW*** - CLOSURE OF THE PEDESTRIAN CROSSING ADJACENT TO MEADOWHEAD ROUNDABOUT FROM THE START OF THE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

From the commencement of the school holidays the traffic signal pedestrian crossing adjacent to Meadowhead Roundabout will be closed to allow the widened carriageways to be constructed and the signals to be re-positioned. Pedestrians wishing to cross the road at this point will be directed to the next traffic signal crossing opposite Dyche Lane. See below.

Closure of the western access to Norton Lane off Bochum Parkway.

This access will remain closed full time for the next few months. Vehicular access to Norton Lane can by made by using the eastern Norton Lane access off Bochum Parkway. We appreciate that this will cause some inconvenience to those living on Norton Lane. Access to the pedestrian crossing adjacent to Meadowhead Roundabout will be maintained.

Sunday lane closures on Meadowhead Roundabout and the approaches to Meadowhead Roundabout

On Sunday 23rd July there will be lane closures in place in the vicinity of the roundabout. This is to enable works adjacent to the live carriageway to be carried out safely. This is likely to impact the traffic using Bochum Parkway and the surrounding areas.

Safety for children and the wider public

We acknowledge that construction sites can be attractive places for children.
Please be assured that once underway, the different areas of works will be securely fenced at all times to ensure the safety of the public. Deep excavations within our works, for drainage for example, will have further fencing erected around them.

Please be aware of slow moving plant and wagons making deliveries and accessing different areas of the site from the live carriageway.

Please be mindful of the speed limit of 40 mph when driving through the works.
