Howards was formed

In 2003 Howard civil Engineering was born. Its initial directors were Michael Howard and Gerard Howard. Working from a home office they secured there first significant project to deliver a new production facility for Starcross Foods in Derbyshire. This first project had a contract value of 750,000 which felt a significant undertaking for the fledgling business.

2005

Howards on the move

Having outgrown the home office we took a leasehold from Leeds City Council on small workshop and offices. A significant event within the year also saw the recruitment of Gerard Howard Jnr as Financial Director. Having qualified as a chartered accountant and cut his teeth within Canary Wharf in London he returned north to join the family business.

2007

Howards expansion continues

With turnover already into the millions and to supplement the growing business we took the decision to incorporate a plant hire business to support the company's plant and equipment needs.

2008

Howards wins its first multi million pound project

This year saw the securing of our largest project to date. A 2.4 million civil engineering project to provide roads, car parks, bridges to the exclusive Leeds Grammar School.

2009

Howards continue to grow and recognised by ISO

Under the BSF schools programme Howards smash its previous largest contract value with the securing of a 5.5million secondary school in Keighley. To independently validate the quality of our systems and procedures Howards achieve ISO90001 & ISO14001.

2011

More recognition for our safety culture

To further support the company’s stringent H&S systems, both Safe contractor and CHAS accredit the company with their membership.

2012

Howards spreads its wings

This year saw the company reach a milestone with the prestigious award of the new Arla Food Dairy in Aylesbury. The contract value to Howards would be 10.8 million in little over 60 weeks. Almost doubling the previous highest contract award. In conjunction with other seven figure contracts throughout the UK it demonstrated our ability to deliver on a truly national basis.

2013

Howards celebrates 10 years with record turnover

Despite the challenges of the recession Howards record their best ever year with a turnover in excess of 15 million. As part of the strategic growth, the company moves into its own modern two storey office and appoints Gary Lumby MBE as non-executive director to enhance corporate governance. ISO18001 is also added to our growing array of accreditations.
