Gateway 36 Newsletter No 4

19 February 2021

Gateway 36 Newsletter No 4 Week commencing Monday 22nd February. First published Friday 19th February.

Each fortnight, these e-newsletters will provide you with updates on progress, traffic management and any potential disruption surrounding the Gateway 36 development in Rockingham. Please note these works will be ongoing until Summer 2021.

Progress, the past two weeks

Traffic management measures have been in place on Dearne Valley Parkway Westbound from Monday 11th January to enable the construction of a new access road off Shortwood Roundabout.

Stone for the new access road has now been placed and compacted and kerbs have been laid, giving a clear indication of how the layout of the road will look upon completion.

We have continued to install surface water drainage systems in the new access road which will collect all surface water from the road via road gullies. Once the road gullies are installed, they will discharge into the newly formed attenuation pond. We have also commenced the installation of land drains which will discharge into the existing highway ditch upon completion.

On the Gateway 36 development, drainage works to install an outfall from the new attenuation pond have continued.

The next two weeks

Please note current traffic management measures are to remain in place in the current layout with a single-lane closure for the westbound lane approaching and exiting Shortwood Roundabout for the next three-to-four weeks. Please contact RTS on 01724 848 246  if there is an out of hours emergency with the traffic management.

Over the next two weeks we will install ducting for new incoming services on the new access road off Shortwood Roundabout, including communication and electric services. We will then install road gullies which will collect the surface water from the road upon completion.

Once these works are complete, we will be able to lay tarmac on the new access road. This will enable us to open the new functionable entrance to site and hopefully minimise disruption to the residents of Hoyland.

On the main site we will recommence major earthworks and continue work to form the attenuation ponds, including the installation of a pond liner and topsoil. This will form two large ponds which will hold surface water during periods of heavy rainfall.
