We are very pleaseed to announce that one of our apprentices, Ben Mills, has been nominated for ‘Young Trainee of the Year’ at the Celebrating Construction in South Yorkshire Awards 2015 to be held on Friday 9th October at the Cutlers’ Hall Sheffield.
Ben, 19, has recently completed his Level 2 NVQ in General Construction Operative apprenticeship, 6 months before he was due to complete. Whilst undertaking his apprenticeship he underwent and passed further training for his CPCS card in ride on roller and forward tipping dumper in which Howard Civil Engineering invested due to his fantastic attitude . Following the sucessful completion of his apprenticeship he was offered employment by Howard Civil Engineering and now undertakes ground working duties as part of a 3 man gang working alongside HCE more experienced operatives.
Ben originally came to us for his final apprenticeship year in September 2014 through our successful link with Futureworks (Yorkshire) which is a scheme that enables apprenticeships to be completed through more than one company. Futureworks provide us with a flexible and high quality service in the provision of apprenticeships managing the process from feasibility, recruitment, learning provider liaison, pastoral care and on-going mentoring.
Futureworks (Yorkshire) have also been shortlisted for ‘ Team of the Year’ at the CCISY awards.
Ben is just one of a number of apprentices at Howard Civil Engineering and Howard Plant. In these days of skills shortages, we are keen to support the upskilling of young people, investing in the future of the construction industry.
We wish Futureworks and Ben every success on the night.
