Who are we? and Why us?
Howard Civil Engineering is one of the North’s leading civil engineering companies; a client-focused organisation that prides itself on building strong, trustworthy relationships that are made to last. We listen to our customers’ needs, and endeavour to deliver a bespoke package to ensure outstanding results every time – as a result, we have a proven track record of producing quality work, whilst adhering to the time frames of our clients.
We are also a family-owned business, with our most senior director boasting over 50 years of experience in the industry. Our deeply rooted family values are integral to our business ethos, and this is reflected in our relationships with our stakeholders. We feel the wealth of experience earned since our founding in 2003 is key to the success of our business.
Due to continued growth and the securing of new projects, we are now in a position to add to our successful commercial team. Howard Civil Engineering is currently looking for a proactive, hardworking, and experienced Quantity Surveyor to be based in our head office in Seacroft, Leeds. Howard’s current projects range from groundworks, S278 & infrastructure works, roads and sewers, and reinforced concrete works.
This would be a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to take their existing skills and develop and progress further in a company where performance and results will be recognised and rewarded.
Role Overview
- Establish a Commercial Calendar of all relevant dates such as submission dates for project valuations, payment dates, retention dates, and project completion dates.
- Establish accurate interim value (what we are truly entitled to because of the work completed) based on awareness of our scope, lots of site visits and constant communication.
- External applications submitted on time, accurately, and robustly substantiated.
- Report & upload onto Microsoft Forms with the Valuation and final date for payment, and accurate MOS value whether it is paid by the client or not.
- Reports uploaded onto Microsoft forms of project performance, which are compiled jointly by the PM and QS.
- Upon awareness of the suggestion (either verbally or by a PN) that an underpayment may be forthcoming, this must be highlighted to the directors. It is essential that we challenge and reinforce our position, more so when we have already fully corroborated our entitlement.
- Change Management – this is the single biggest task we must be alive to and constantly in touch with. It is the biggest thing that will impact value and entitlement, and we must use the tools, trackers, our colleagues, and initiative to ensure we are aware of our entitlement.
- Once completed, valuations cannot be resubmitted, edited, or updated, so it is essential we spend the time and effort necessary to ensure they are accurate and reflect all work we have undertaken, including additional or changing scope.
