Last week, Howard Civil Engineering paid a visit to Barnsley foodbank to donate almost 400 items of much-needed food and toiletries!
In addition to the food and toiletries, we have also presented the food bank with a cheque for £250 which will help cover transport and delivery costs as they gear up for a busy Christmas period.
The food bank, which is part of the nationwide Trussell Trust network, has helped to feed 4,789 people in 2020 alone – 1,843 of which were children.
Community liaison officer Sophie Henderson commented: “Howard Civil Engineering believe the community local to our projects to be of paramount importance and are always happy to help where possible.
“The team at Howard Civil Engineering were very touched when we saw local businesses and community groups banding together to feed families over the October school holidays and it gives us all great pleasure to be able to support those most vulnerable in our society over the festive period.”
She also urged members of the local community to follow suit and extend a helping hand to those in need if they are able to: “After what has been a difficult year for everyone, food banks such as the one in Barnsley have noted that more people are reliant on food parcels than ever. Donating even the smallest amount of food or money if you are able to really can go a long way.”
Barnsley Food Bank have recently updated their Amazon wish list of supplies they need to feed those dependent on food parcels this Christmas. You can find out more and donate on their website.
