An egg-cellent surprise for Yorkshire children's wards!

01 April 2021

Children at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Bradford Royal Infirmary and Barnsley Hospital were given an egg-cellent surprise this Easter thanks to our Gateway 36 and Greengate Junction teams!

Earlier this week Howard Civil Engineering donated over 100 Easter eggs and over £150 worth of arts, crafts and toys to the children’s wards of these three hospitals to make sure no child misses out on the magic of Easter this year!

The Greengates Junction site team donated 50 eggs to the children's ward at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

“Although we were unable to visit the children’s wards due to Covid-19, the members of the play teams we met were absolutely over the moon to receive such large donations of Easter eggs and play equipment!” said marketing manager Abbie Harrop, who delivered the donations earlier this week.

“Sheffield Children’s Hospital noted that they have received fewer donations this year as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, so it’s really nice to be able to bring a smile to the faces of both the children and the staff on these wards after what has been such a difficult year for them all.”

Team members in our head office purchased over 50 easter eggs for Sheffield Children's Hospital.

Over in Barnsley, things were a little bit different.

"Whereas on other sites we have donated Easter eggs to the children's wards at other hospitals, Barnsley Hospital appealed for arts and crafts materials for the play areas of their children's ward this year," explains community liaison officer Sophie Henderson. "We've had a great turnout of donations from our Gateway 36 operatives, and we're thrilled to help ensure that children on the ward can make use of these donations all year round!"

The play team at Barnsley Hospital Children's Ward were thrilled with over £150 worth of play equipment donated by our Gateway 36 team.

Our visits to Sheffield Children's Hospital and Bradford Royal Infirmary were made even more special owing to the fact that Howard Civil Engineering have previously undertaken work at these two hospitals! In 2014 we completed a £0.5m contract at Sheffield Children's Hospital for Balfour Beatty and from 2015-2017 we delivered a £1.5m package at Bradford Royal Infirmary for BAM Construction.

We hope everyone at Sheffield, Bradford and Barnsley Hospitals have a very hoppy Easter!
