Greengates Junction Newsletter No 36

26 May 2022

Newsletter No 36. Week Commencing Monday 30th May. First published Friday 27th May 2022.

This newsletter is to provide you with an update on the Greengates Junction Improvement works.

We are pleased to say that we are expecting all arms of the junction, including the new P-loop, to fully reopen to motorists on Tuesday 31st May 2022.

Progress, the past four weeks

Over the past four weeks, we have completed the installation of traffic islands around the junction and have undertaken night works to complete surfacing of the main carriageways.

Clearance of the temporary material storage area in the P-loop is underway and general landscaping has begun, including the installation of tree pits. The footpath on the New Line corner of the P-loop is almost complete, meaning this footpath will be reopened to the public very soon.

On New Line, we have installed the traffic signal ducts along the footpath leading from Sunnyside Day Nursery to the zebra crossing outside The New Inn.

We have also reinstated the Greengates community noticeboard outside Asda.

Around the junction, we are preparing the footpaths ahead of the final surfacing. Work to install heads and wiring connections for the new traffic lights have progressed well and we are looking forward to lighting these when the junction reopens to motorists on Tuesday 31st May.

The next four weeks

Greengates residents and commuters will be pleased to hear that we are hoping to remove all traffic management cones and signage around the junction from Tuesday 31st May, and the new traffic lights will be in operation. This will allow all running lanes and the full width of the roads to be utilised by motorists.

On New Line, we will install the traffic signal duct which will enable the conversion of the existing zebra crossing into a controlled pedestrian crossing.

A lane closure will be in place to enable us to complete this work quickly and safely. We will commence the final surfacing of footpaths and traffic islands around the junction, which will enable us to completely reopen these to the public.

Finally, we will complete landscaping around the junction including work to the ditch in the P-loop area.

Traffic flow around the junction

From Tuesday 31st May all arms of the junction will be reopened to motorists, including the new P-loop.

Please familiarise yourself with the diagrams outlining traffic flow around the junction below before making your journey. The approach from Thackley remains unchanged.
