Greengates Junction Newsletter No 28

03 September 2021

Newsletter No 27. Week Commencing Monday 6th September. First published Friday 3rd September 2021.

This newsletter is to provide you with an update on the Greengates Junction Improvement works.

Please note traffic management measures remain in place at Greengates junction to enable us to work on all four arms of the junction. Please plan your journey accordingly if you are passing through the junction.

Work on Greengates Junction will be ongoing until Spring 2022.

Please note that, following feedback from subscribers, your Greengates Junction newsletter will now be issued monthly rather than fortnightly. Your next issue will be Friday 1st October.

Progress, the past four weeks

Over the past four weeks, we have made fantastic progress on the widened stretch of road on New Line, opposite Asda. The first two layers of surfacing to this phase of works have now been laid, and where possible we have fully surfaced the footpath which leads from the entrance of Sainsburys around the corner to Costa and Taco Bell. We have also laid Yorkstone paving to the shop fronts along this area including Costa and True You Health.

Further along New Line, we have continued road widening operations on the stretch of road leading from Farmfoods to New Line Retail Park.

Yorkshire Water have continued the second phase of their diversion works on Harrogate Road, and we are pleased to say the scope of this phase has increased so there will no longer be a need to disrupt the water supply to the war memorial gardens in future.

Across the road, outside Greengates House, we have formed a temporary footpath which will allow for the restriction of the road outside Greengates Primary School once gas diversion works commence.

The next four weeks

Over the next four weeks, we will continue to prepare the stretch of road and footpath on New Line leading from Farmfoods to New Line Retail Park for surfacing. The progression of these works is dependent upon the efficiency of third-party utility contractors and the availability of building materials.

Once these works are complete, the southern flank of New Line will be used for the traffic running lanes, footpaths will be open for pedestrian use, and we will concentrate our focus on the northern flank of the scheme.

In the northern area of this phase of works, we will be accommodating the diversion of the water main, followed by the diversions required for drainage, low-voltage cables, BT, Virgin Media, street lighting, illuminated street signs, and the underground traffic control system. Once complete, these works will allow for the reconfiguring and profiling of the footpaths and roads in this area of the scheme.

On Harrogate Road, we will also be undertaking accommodation works for and within the grounds of both Greengates Primary School and Optegra Eye Hospital. These works will facilitate the road widening and the final phase of the gas diversion in this area.

Traffic Management

Roads have been reduced to two lanes in all directions to enable us to progress with ongoing junction widening works. We anticipate that these traffic management measures will be in place for the foreseeable future. Please allow extra time for travel when passing through the junction.

Howard Civil Engineering have worked alongside Bradford Council to ascertain the most efficient traffic management measures to enable us to complete the junction improvement works with the highest consideration for safety of our operatives, road users and pedestrians. Their traffic engineers continue to work with us to make the required adjustments to the traffic lights to balance the queues and make it as fair as we can for all motorists. We apologise in advance for any disruption and delays which you may encounter as a result of these works and thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
