Greengates Junction Newsletter No 25

09 July 2021

Newsletter No 25. Week Commencing Monday 12th July. First published Friday 9th July 2021.

This newsletter is to provide you with an update on the Greengates Junction Improvement works.

Please note traffic management measures remain in place at Greengates junction to enable us to work on all four arms of the junction. Please plan your journey accordingly if you are passing through the junction.

Progress, the past two weeks

Over the past two weeks, work we have continued to fill the new footpath area of New Line, outside Costa, to the required level, and install ducting, tactile paving, and signs.

We are pleased to say that we have completed the second phase of high and low voltage cable diversions, and the installation of ducting in the road crossings for the second phase of service diversions. Please note there are three phases of service diversions in total across the scheme.

Where possible, work to rebuild the boundary walls around the junction has continued. Outside New Line Retail Park, we have completed the installation of kerbing and planted areas. These areas have now received temporary surfacing so that they are useable until the new tarmac surfacing can be laid.

Yorkshire Water commenced their second phase of diversion works to renew and divert the watermain along Harrogate Road on Saturday 3rd July. These works are planned to run 7 days a week throughout the school summer holidays, when traffic should be lighter, in an attempt to minimise disruption to local residents and commuters.

Virgin Media have also commenced the diversion of their cables and infrastructure along New Line and around to the control box on Harrogate Road.

Further along Harrogate Road, outside Costa, we have also disconnected and removed the old bus stop.

The next two weeks

Over the next two weeks, we will commence the installation of ducting required for the third phase of service diversions and traffic signal control cables.

On the corner of Harrogate Road, outside Costa and leading to the entrance of Core Gym, we will continue to form the footpath and lay kerbing and drainage.

Yorkshire Water will continue their diversion works throughout the summer holidays. Virgin Media will aim to complete their diversions along New Line to the control box on Harrogate Road.

On New Line, from Farmfoods down to New Line Retail Park, work will continue to form the new road in preparation for surfacing.

We are also hoping to complete the reconstruction of boundary walls outside Greengates House on Harrogate Road, and New Line retail Park and Sunnyside Day Nursery on New Line.

Howard Civil Engineering in the Bradford community

10 members of the Howard Civil Engineering team are putting their physical and mental stamina to the test later this month as they take on the Tough Mudder challenge for Mind in Bradford!

We are hoping to raise £3,000 for Mind in Bradford, a mental health charity helping people who are struggling with emotional and mental health problems across Bradford, Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven.

We will be partaking in the Yorkshire Tough Mudder 5K on Saturday 31st July. If you would like to help us support Mind in Bradford, please sponsor our team!

Traffic Management

Roads have been reduced to two lanes in all directions to enable us to progress with ongoing junction widening works. We anticipate that these traffic management measures will be in place for the foreseeable future. Please allow extra time for travel when passing through the junction.

Howard Civil Engineering have worked alongside Bradford Council to ascertain the most efficient traffic management measures to enable us to complete the junction improvement works with the highest consideration for safety of our operatives, road users and pedestrians. Their traffic engineers continue to work with us to make the required adjustments to the traffic lights to balance the queues and make it as fair as we can for all motorists. We apologise in advance for any disruption and delays which you may encounter as a result of these works and thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
