Gateway 36 Newsletter No 16

05 August 2021

Gateway 36 Newsletter No 16 Week commencing Monday 9th August. First published Friday 6th August.

Welcome to the Gateway 36 e-newsletter. Each fortnight, these e-newsletters will provide you with updates on progress, traffic management and any potential disruption surrounding the Gateway 36 development in Rockingham. Please note these works will be ongoing until late Summer 2021.

Progress, the past two weeks

We have continued to form the new S278 roundabout on Dearne Valley Parkway which will facilitate entry to Phase 3 of the Gateway 36 scheme. Traffic management measures to close lanes remain in place in this area.

Tarmac surfacing is laid on the carriageway and footpath and we have installed street lightings columns to the roundabout towards the second-phase-side.

We are unfortunately experiencing delays with our utility provider's works to divert the water main, but once complete we will install the vehicle restraint barrier and switch traffic management measures which will allow us to work within the existing Dearne Valley Parkway dual carriageway to complete the formation of the roundabout.

Whilst we have completed earthworks on the second phase of the Gateway 36 development, we are now undertaking additional work which includes the relocation of a stockpile for ground settlement monitoring. We estimate these works will be complete in 3-4 weeks.

We have also continued earthworks on the development plateaus on the third phase of Gateway 36, which will be complete later this summer.

The next two weeks

Work to form the new S278 roundabout will continue on both sides of Dearne Valley Parkway as we prepare the new carriageway. In the next few weeks, we will be completing water and telecommunication service diversions. Following this, we will install the remaining new street lighting columns, vehicle restraint system, road signage and temporary white lining. Once complete, live traffic and our traffic management measures will switch-over to the newly formed route whilst we work in the middle section to complete the new roundabout.

Once the works described above are complete, traffic will then switch over to the new formed route whilst we continue work on the central section to form the new roundabout on Dearne Valley Parkway. We will then commence the construction of the substation and the access road leading into the third phase of the development.

Earthworks on this phase will also continue throughout the next two weeks.

The current traffic management layout will stay in place whilst work to construct the new roundabout is ongoing.

Should you experience or witness an out-of-hours emergency regarding the traffic management measures in place, please call RTS on 01724 848 246.

All works are scheduled to be complete for late summer 2021.
