BACKGROUND
The Knostrop site, located in Leeds, is a former Yorkshire Water Treatment Works earmarked for redevelopment for future commercial use. Decades of wastewater treatment operations, combined with historic industrial activity and underlying coal measures, have left a complex legacy of contamination, buried structures, sewage sludge deposits, and mine workings.
Howard Civil Engineering was appointed under a design and build arrangement to deliver the Knostrop Earthworks and Remediation contract. The objective of the scheme is to remediate the brownfield site to approved regulatory standards, creating a safe, stable and compliant development platform suitable for future commercial construction, while satisfying planning conditions and environmental regulations.
SCOPE OF WORK
