BACKGROUND
The A1 Leeming to Barton upgrade replaced the existing dual carriageway with a new three lane motorway. It also included the provision of a new local access road alongside the new motorway, a new grade separated junction at Catterick, and an improved junction at Scotch Corner to provide access to the strategic road network.
The 12-mile section of the A1 between Leeming and Barton carries between 59,000 to 69,000 vehicles per day, and previously had poor alignment with many side road junctions, and farms and field accesses.
Howard Civil Engineering was awarded the drainage works to four of the outfalls of the scheme, with further outfalls released as work commenced on-site.
