Work is now complete on our third project for Persimmon Homes. The new brick factory is a flagship project for the group on a 14.76 acre site in Harworth. At full capacity, the facility produces circa 80 million brick per annum.

Our package of works consisted of the specialist machine foundations, foundations and slabs for the various portal frame buildings, the roads and sewers (including off site connections), and the external yards.

Working to a tight programme to meet portal frame and mechanical installations all civils works required for the following

  • Brick manufacturing building
  • Curing chamber annexed to above
  • Internal factory process plant and machinery
  • External sand bins, hoppers, mixing and batching, cement silos and associated conveyors
  • Suitable delivery, drop off, loading areas
  • Plant manoeuvring areas for scooper and hopper areas
  • Storage area for finished product
  • Loading area
  • Temporary office buildings
  • Fuelling and maintenance building
  • Separate fuelling and maintenance area for the continued operation of fork lift trucks
  • Associated roads and footpaths around site along with two weighbidges
  • Surface and foul water infrastructure including off site connections

In preparation to receive German manufactured plant and equipment, tolerances of <2mm were specified for many of the bases, plinths and floor slabs.

A developing design challenged our team but, undeterred, Howad Civil Engineering successfully delivered a commendable quality product.
