Cromwell Gardens

Client: Engie

Value: £6.7m
Location: Rastrick, Brighouse
Contract Period: 24 months
Contract Type: Bespoke

Background

Cromwell Gardens is our first contract for our new client, Engie, and is a new housing development in Rastrick, Brighouse.

Comprising 271 new homes, this energy efficient housing development will span 26 acres and will take four and a half years to complete.

Howard Civil Engineering is pleased to be delivering plot works for 131 homes, the S104 drainage, and S38 roadworks on the second phase of the scheme following our successful delivery of the groundworks and infrastructure package for the first phase.

The site poses significant topographical challenges, which we have overcome by working closely with our client. This early contractor involvement has enabled us to achieve zero waste being taken to landfill.

The new homes will be kitted out with high efficiency boilers, enhanced levels of insulation, and time and temperature heating zone controls. All properties will also have the provision for electric vehicle charging points, with several plots also benefitting from photovoltaic solar panels. Overall, the new homes will exceed the carbon reduction requirements of building regulations by a minimum of 10%.

The project will also include bio-diversity enhancements in the form of new tree planting, wildflower meadows, generous areas of public open space and the reinstatement of acid grassland, a rare upland habitat which is rapidly disappearing in the region.

Scope

  • Construction of the S38 adoptable highways, including various S278 junction improvement works
  • Installation of the S104 adopted drainage - varying sizes at depths up to 6m deep
  • Installation of a significant Carlow Precast Concrete attenuation tank, providing almost 1700m³ (1.7m litres) of surface water storage
