Background

City Fields is a new 375-hectare housing development in Wakefield and comprises a selection of homes from renowned builders such as Avant, Countryside Properties, Redrow and Bellway. Wakefield Council estimates there will be 42,000 new households in the area by 2031, and as such are targeting 1,600 new homes to be built each year to meet demand.

In addition to approximately 2,500 new homes, City Fields will also offer a health centre, nursery, drive-thru restaurant, food shop, and pub.

This site was our first project for Wakefield Council, but our understanding of the ground conditions and road networks from having previously worked on the development for Countryside Properties proved invaluable.

This area is a popular walking spot for locals, and we ensured to phase and deliver the works – including a partial diversion -  with minimal disruption to the public.

Most of our work on this scheme was to be undertaken under high-voltage overhead cables, and we developed a concise delivery strategy and safe system of work in conjunction with Wakefield Council and Northern Powergrid to manage this risk.

Scope of works

  • 1200mm of drainage up to 5m deep including sections of ovoid pipe to increase storage while keeping trench widths to a minimum
  • Installation of 2.7m diameter pumping station at 5m deep with associated valve chambers and rising main
  • 1300m of ducting to facilitate the diversion of the overhead cables for the future housing development

Trust us to deliver your project on time and on budget
