Howard Civil Engineering was awarded this contract by Barratt Developments to construct a new roundabout centered on the existing A19/A163 Market Weighton junction, Barlby, north of Selby.
The roundabout, which replaces the notoriously dangerous A19/A163/York Road staggered junction, was built as a planning condition for the adjacent Barratt Homes residential development.
It was built to programme, following Howard Civil Engineering's phasing drawings which were presented to stakeholders at the commencement of the scheme.
In conjunction with the work, our highly successful community liaison programme was praised by local councillors and residents of the surrounding villages. A fortnightly electronic newsletter was received by over 250 residents and businesses and further shared over social media, enabling anyone using the A19 to plan their journeys depending on the anticipated traffic management sequence for that phase.
'You are currently undertaking some work on the A19 near Selby to build a roundabout. I'm sure you get this a lot but I just want to send some recognition to the project manager on this work, absolute minimal disruption and very well organised work teams. Well done!'
- Local resident
'Your newsletter re the Barlby reconstruction has been excellent and very helpful. Thank you for your input.'
'I would like to congratulate your workforce on this project. I travel this section of the A19 regularly and the way the construction of the roundabout has been managed has been with very little upheaval to the driver, so well done on a very neat and tidy operation. Here I am, a member of the public not complaining about roadworks. Can't be bad! Thank you for your efforts.'
‘We have received very few complaints from the travelling public, which is very unusual for a scheme such as this, so well done to you all!'
