Arla Mega Dairy

Client: Caddick Construction

Value: £10.9m
Location: Aylesbury
Contract Period: 66 weeks
Contract Type: JCT

Background

The Arla Mega Dairy in Aylesbury represents Howard Civil Engineering's largest contract to date. The £150m project provided one billion litres of dairy in its first year and produced the worlds first zero-carbon milk. The site, which covers 70 acres, now provides over 700 production, distribution and administration posts, processing milk from over 900 farmers.

Howard Civil Engineering was appointed due to our experience in the manufacturing sector and our ability to work to challenging timeframes and completing projects on time and on budget. The site location pushed our limits with regards to distance from our head office in Leeds, but proved the ability of our management team in the successfully delivery of this flagship contract.

Through successful partnering workshops with our client, we made allowance for co-ordinating the installation of our works with those others on site, working closely with other subcontractors to the main contract carrying out works such as structural steel work, composite cladding, external walls and roofing, curtain walling, tarmacadam works and electrical, mechanical and process equipment installation. Adhering to the tight handover dates ensured the scheme was delivered to programme.
