HR and Payroll Officer

Due to continued business growth and success, Howard Civil Engineering is looking for a hardworking, enthusiastic individual to join our team and undertake the exciting new role of Payroll and HR Officer. The successful candidate will be working under the direction of our Finance Director across three companies within the Howard Group, therefore a pro-active work ethic and a drive to excel are essential!

Responsibilities:

HR:

  • Responsible for issuing all personnel documentation.
  • Conducting personnel meetings, interviews, inductions, appraisals etc.
  • Communicating with staff about changes to policies and procedures, legislation, and other pertinent matters.
  • Processing holiday bookings, ensuring communication to Senior Operations Managers.
  • Regularly reviewing and updating all policies, handbooks, and contracts.
  • Dealing with any personnel issues which may arise.
  • Monitoring absence levels, arranging and conducting welfare/investigation meetings in line with company policy.
  • Supporting all staff in relation to any welfare problems.

Payroll:

  • Collating data from various sources from our wide network of remote sites into one format.
  • Approving agency and subcontractor timesheets.
  • Processing all PAYE staff payroll through CIS and Opera.
  • Sending all pension data through to the relevant provider.
  • Adding new starters.
  • Processing leavers.
  • All other adhoc payroll tasks.

GDPR:

  • Ensuring the company is compliant with all of the rules of restrictions set out by the ICO.
  • Ensuring all policies are current and match the practises the company follows.
  • Managing any data subject access requests - this includes every item the company has in its possession which pertains to an individual’s personal data. Liaising with ICO to ensure compliance.
  • Redacting collected data to ensure there are no details relating to the company’s day to day dealings and that other people’s details remain confidential.

Training:

  • Managing training needs, liaising with managers and training providers.
  • Monitoring certification expiries and pro-actively booking relevant training.
  • Liaising with colleges to ensure apprentices and students are meeting requirements from both the company and training provider.
  • Managing all funding applications.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a construction company (Preferred).
  • Previous experience in a standalone Payroll role (Essential).
  • Previous experience running end to end payroll (Essential).
  • Previous experience in a standalone HR & Training role (Essential).
  • Previous experience with Opera & CIS (Preferred).
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Resilient.
  • Have a positive, optimistic attitude.
  • High attention to detail, taking pride in your work.
  • Must be a team player.
