Today the commencement of a new facility for Leeds City College was celebrated with a groundbreaking ceremony officiated by Leeds City College CEO and Principal Colin Booth.

Howard Civil Engineering are pleased to be supporting Wates Group in the delivery of the groundworks and RC Frame packages on this prestigious site.

The footprint, existing topography and city centre location make this a challenging build but off set by the advance logistical planning undertaken by Howard Civil Engineering prior to being awarded the scheme.

The works commence with the groundworks package. In brief the substructure consists of a 3500m2 basement with foundations, drainage, retaining walls, earthworks and vertical columns and cores.

The superstructure involves the construction of 6no blocks using Post Tensioning method to construct the floor plates.

It will take approximately 45 weeks from groundbreaking to casting the final roof upstand.

A birds eye view looking down into the auditorium captures the neat work being carried out by our teams at Hull Venue for BAM Construction. We’ve pulled off this site for a period to enable Bam to crack on with the build, but we’ll be back.

This will be an amazing venue for Hull – City of Culture for 2017

The start of the Five Towns Project has been long awaited by fans, the public and contractors alike.

This £135 million investment in the Five Towns area will provide a new 10,000 capacity community stadium for Castleford Tigers, a country park with new wetlands and woodlands, food store and petrol filling station, and retail units suitable for major national retailers

Substantial planting, screening and land reformation will mitigate visual impact to local residents and provide pleasant walks for locals and visitors; an alternative to shopping.

Major highways improvements are also planned to create a new entrance to Castleford.

Although the major works do not commence until early 2018, Howard Civil Engineering have been awarded the enabling package to create safe entrances and accesses from the surrounding major roads onto site and also to install the pre earthworks drainage in advance of the main earthworks.

A new retail park is under construction off the A6102 (Bochum Parkway) south of Sheffield city centre on the site of the old Norton College. The site is being developed by St James Securities Limited. GMI Construction are the Principal Contractor for the scheme.

To provide access into the site a new traffic light controlled entrance is to be constructed off Bochum Parkway. This will enable traffic approaching both from the east and the west to gain access to and leave the retail park.

Along with the entrance works, adjustments are being made to the adjacent Meadowhead Roundabout with the introduction of an additional lane to increase capacity around the roundabout.

Howard Civil Engineering have been awarded the Section 278 Works contract.

We commenced work this week starting with some investigation works to locate the buried subway structure formerly enabling pedestrian access under Bochum Parkway.

A full community liaison scheme has been rolled out by Howard Civil Engineering. This includes the delivery of an electronic newsletter every 2 weeks to local residents, businesses and service providers, providing up to date information about the road works and warns of temporary traffic management that is likely to have a detrimental affect on travel times.

Editions of our newsletter can be found on our dedicated St James Retail Park/Bochum Parkway web page  https://www.howardcivileng.co.uk/st-james-retail-park-bochum-parkway/

This is our first contract for GMI Construction.

What a difference 9 months makes.

The link road is complete, the factory is up, the slabs are progressing across the huge yard. This is Persimmon’s new brick factory; a flagship project for the group on a 14.76 acre site in Harworth, South Yorkshire.

On completion the brickworks will produce up to 88 million bricks per annum to supply Persimmon Homes across the country.

Our package of works contains the Specialist Machine Foundations, foundations and slabs for the various portal frame buildings, the roads and sewers including off site connections and the external yards.
