Kicking off the last week before Christmas is our donation to Sunderland Headlight – another recurring charity for us, as we also supported them in last year’s #12DaysofHCE!

We’re proud to once again provide them with £400, which we hope will assist in their ongoing efforts to provide mental health support to those in their local community, in addition to running various courses and recreational activities as part of this!

Speaking to us about the impact of supporting the charity, Sundland Headlight’s had this to say: “We have had a 55% increase in the number of people accessing our organisation for help and support over the last year, so your generous donation means a great deal to us.

Thank you all for helping us to make a positive difference.

Headlight believes that “everyone has something to offer, and that individuals develop a sense of belonging through participation and relationship building”. This statement is something we couldn’t agree more with, and it’s why we’re more than happy to reaffirm our support of their great work!

The charity hosts a variety of morning and afternoon events for people to come along and enjoy; coffee mornings, bingo, games groups, weekly quizzes, as well as group sessions for men and women respectively. However, offering such a range of activities isn’t easy, which is why supporting their cause is so vital.

Rounding off this week of #12DaysofHCE is Hebburn Helps, a community food bank and crisis response charity in the North East of England.

Having received prestigious acclaim for their work, such as The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services (the equivalent of an MBE), there’s no denying their commitment to supporting the most vulnerable in their community.

The charity is currently underway with its Christmas Toy Drive, appealing to anyone and everyone to ensure no child in their community goes without a present this year. It’s an exceptionally admirable cause, and one we encourage anyone reading this to support if you can – details on how you can help are available on their website here.

To aid Hebburn Helps with their ongoing efforts over the festive season, we were thrilled to donate £400 to their cause! From making sure every child is happy this Christmas, to providing dinners and meals to those who are struggling, there are so many amazing ways for this money to be used, so we’re more than confident that it will help make someone’s Christmas that much better.

For this #12DaysofHCE, our donation is a lot tastier than usual! We were delighted to take part in the Wilberfoss Community Centre’s Christmas get-together, hosted by Rebekah, who runs their Tuesday Chats each week.

Our donation included providing a plethora of delectable Christmas treats for attendees to nibble on, and our Sustainability Manager Sophie Henderson stayed to partake in the festive chit-chat.

Tuesday Chats, run by the Wilberfoss Community Centre, are a fantastic way for older members of the local area to come along and socialise over some food and drink. The space is overseen by a dedicated team of individuals, and plays host to a variety of activities and events for all age groups.

The Christmas period can be lonely for some, so we’re more than happy to support the centre’s ongoing efforts! If you’re wanting to learn more, please visit their website here.

Today’s #12DaysofHCE donation is in support of the Old Fire Station, a space where people – old and young – can come along, socialise, and participate in various activities. You may remember that we also donated to and supported them last year as part of our Christmas campaign, even appearing on BBC Look North (more on that here)!

The Old Fire Station is home to a number of what it calls ‘tenants’: Third Sector Organisations “working with local people to provide services and support” within the centre! These include People In Action, Space2, Zest, Healthwatch Leeds, Gipsil, Leeds Cookery School, and Elevate. From teaching essential life skills like cooking, to assisting people with a wide array of advice and support, the Old Fire Station brings its tenants and the surrounding community together to create something truly special.

Being only a short drive away from our head office in Seacroft, Leeds, we were delighted to deliver a £400 cheque to the Old Fire Station, and hope that the donation will help support the various activities they work hard to run!

That’s not all though: our Sustainability Manager, Sophie Henderson, will be volunteering there on Thursday the 14th, helping the team as they once again serve Christmas dinners!

Our next donation is to the Wetherby In Support of the Elderly charity (WISE for short)! WISE works in Wetherby, and several other locations across Leeds, to help improve the all-around quality of life for those over the age of 60.

Having been in operation for more than 20 years, WISE offers a variety of services and social activities for members to take part in; line dancing, befriending, bingo & fun, their welcome cafe, information and advice for those that need it, and a whole lot more. It’s safe to say that their services are crucial in supporting older communities across West Yorkshire.

To that end, we were incredibly pleased to hand over a £400 cheque to them and show our support! Our donation will be used for a number of things, including the funding of their Christmas band for some quality entertainment, and helping to supply Christmas crackers for the charity’s festive party.

We can’t wait to see how WISE’s great work makes an impact over this season that, for many, can be a truly tough time.

We’re continuing our festive giving with The Hut York, a charity that – in their words – is “bringing creativity and purpose to the lives of adults with their mental health journeys, and/or learning disabilities”.

The organisation’s vital work brings a sense of community to people who may struggle to find it on their own: their website details how they help those who use the service with meaningful workshops, sessions, and activities that are designed by members of The Hut’s team. They also work to coach, guide and support when it comes to daily life skills; problem solving, critical and creative thinking, effective communication, building healthy relationships, and coping with everyday tasks.

Our sustainability manager Sophie Henderson paid a visit to The Hut, where she took part in one of their well-being sessions:

“It was amazing to see the interaction and enthusiasm from The Hut’s members – thank you for allowing me to be a part of this!”

We donated £500 to The Hut, whose website details a number of vital causes that donations can help support. For example, their creative space – The Studio – is in need of a new roof to ensure the building remains safe and accessible to its members. Donations are also used to support members who are struggling financially to attend The Hut’s various activity sessions, and £64 is enough to fund an entire week of these for a person.
