Welcome to your first newsletter, providing you with information regarding the road works on Otley Road for the new Charles Church Residential Development.
The works are being carried out in 2 phases. From 1st October until 24th November, and then 3rd January until July 2019.
The break in the works over Christmas is the Christmas Embargo period, when we are not allowed to use temporary traffic lights on the road. There will also be bank holidays, local events, e.g. Harrogate Flower Show, and cycle race days, when we are not allowed to work.
The works will commence in 2 areas. The area of the junction with Beckwith Head Road and the area around the site entrance
On Monday 1st October 4 way temporary traffic signals will be erected at the Otley Road/Beckwith Head Junction. The 4 way lights will be in operation 24hrs per day for the next few weeks. A electricity utility company, Power On Connections, will be installing ducts across Otley Road and Crag Lane. This is to provide power to the Charles Church site. We, Howard Civil Engineering, will be commencing excavations for foul sewer connection in the grass at the junction. In the next few weeks both the foul sewer pipe and the electricity ducts will progress along Otley Road, towards the Charles Church development. Installing the foul sewer pipe and the elecricity ducts at the same time will reduce the overall disruption period. Pedestrian access will be maintained in the vicinity of the junction. Pedestrians may be diverted on to the road along a fenced off pathway but it will be clearly signposted.
On Tuesday 2nd October a second set of temporary traffic signals will be erected opposite the Charles Church entrance. We will be stripping topsoil and laying stone for the carriageway widening as well as trimming back some trees. Again, pedestrians access will be maintained at all times.
The traffic signals will be monitored during the day on week days to ensure that traffic does not build up too much in either direction.
