Welcome to your second newsletter providing you with information regarding the Hard Ings Road Improvement scheme in Keighley. Every fortnight these newsletters will provide you with an update on how the works are progressing and also anything we think you might find interesting to do with the scheme. Read on for information regarding the Lawkholme Lane closure that comes into effect from early Monday 3rd June
During these past 2 weeks we have commenced work in 3 areas. We have cleared the allotment area in preparation for the construction of the new retaining walls required to support the widened carriageway where the adjacent ground drops away in level. We have striped topsoil to the area near the ambulance station prior to dismantling the stone wall. All the old stone will be reused for the new walls.
At the Bradford Road Roundabout end we have opened up a trench for the installation of the surface water drainage pipe. We knew that it was going to be challenge to install the drainage amongst a network of existing BT, electric and street lighting cables, but we found the old road underneath the footpath too! You may have seen the large 'Vac-Ex' machine on site. This literally sucks up the earth around the cables and ducts which is a safer way of digging trenches in areas of known services than using an excavator or by hand with a shovel.
During the past 2 Sundays we have removed the 2 existing pedestrian islands in readiness for the temporary traffic management installation on the night of Sunday 2nd June.
Next week we will be continuing with the drainage work near Bradford Road Roundabout. We'll be taking down walls and continuing to clear the site ahead of our works. Work on site will start to pick up pace from week commencing 3rd June when the temporary traffic management is in place
During the evening of Sunday 2nd June through to the early hours of Monday 3rd a temporary traffic management system will be put in place on Hard Ings Road to close off the traffic lane that runs alongside United Carpets and Fibreline.
Two-way traffic will be maintained on Hard Ings Road by moving the Bradford bound traffic into the central lane.
As a consequence of this, the Lawkholme Lane junction with Hard Ings Road will be temporarily closed for the remaining period of the Hard Ings Road Project; approximately 1 year.
This is required due to the wide path the larger vehicles take when leaving Lawkholme Lane and to keep traffic congestion on Hard Ings Road to a minimum by preventing traffic queuing to access Lawkholme Lane off Hard Ings Road.
Diversion signs will be erected to direct traffic normally using the Lawkholme Lane Junction. All businesses off Lawkholme Lane will be open and accessible as usual. Signs will be erected to show this.
All temporary traffic management is planned, discussed and agreed in conjunction with Bradford Council's transport department making the safety of the public and the construction workforce the highest priority
In our experience when a temporary traffic management system is installed a large amount of traffic congestion is experienced during the first few days. After this congestion tends to calm down again as people find alternative routes, if they can, or change their journey times. Please bear with us during this period.
We are aware of 2 bus routes that use the Lawkholme Lane junction and the following diversions have been put in place by the bus companies.
Route P23 for Steeton Village Primary School will have an amended route. There will be no pick up on Lawkholme Lane. AM: the bus will start at the bus stop on Skipton Road at East Avenue (08:22) then along Skipton Road to Devonshire Street and the usual route thereafter. Therefore the bus will not operate along Lawkholme Lane. PM: as per the usual route from the school as far as the roundabout at Skipton Road/Hard Ings then continue along Skipton Road (16:10 at East Avenue) toward Devonshire Street and the usual route thereafter. Those passengers who usually board or alight at the stops at the top of Lawkholme Lane near Hard Ings are advised to use the bus stop on Skipton Road at East Avenue. This amendment will continue for the duration of the works at Hard Ings or until such time the turn restriction is lifted. Details of all school bus diversions are also available at https://www.wymetro.com/schools/school-bus-service-changes-and-disruptions/
