Hard Ings Road Improvement Scheme

Hard Ings Newsletter No 5

05 July 2019

Newsletter No 5. Week commencing Monday 8th July. Weeks 10 and 11.
(First published Friday 5th July)

Welcome to your fifth newsletter providing you with information regarding the Hard Ings Road Improvement scheme in Keighley.
Every fortnight these newsletters will provide you with an update on how the works are progressing and also anything we think you might find interesting to do with the scheme.

Work this past 2 weeks

The piling plant has left the site having installed the sheet piles required to hold up the widened section of carriageway in the Fibreline and allotment area. This has opened up lots of available work to us, completing the retaining walls, building the new ramps and steps into Fibreline.

The drainage pipe installation has continued at the Bradford Road Roundabout end of the scheme. We just needed to get this section of deep drainage installed before National Gas Networks start on site next week, carrying out the gas diversion that is required for us to dig up the old footpaths to make way for the widened carriageway.

At Beechcliffe Roundabout the drainage installation is continuing. This will take the place of the existing drainage system which needs to be removed for the additional carriageway lane to be installed around the roundabout.

In other areas another contractor has completed the temporary Yorkshire Water Diversion at the Keighley Cricket Club. This will enable us to take down the old Cricket Club wall and construct a retaining wall.

We have commenced the installation of duct crossings across business entrances for upcoming service diversions.

Work for the next 2 weeks

Next week a contractor working for Northern Gas Networks will start the gas diversion which is required along the whole length of Hard Ings Road. This diversion is expected to take approximately 12 weeks.
We'll be starting to install some larger diameter drainage pipes across the Hard Ings Motor Company forecourt. The larger pipes will help store water during periods of heavy rain and release it slowly into the drainage system which helps to reduce the possibility of flooding along other areas of the drainage system.
The Beechcliffe Roundabout drainage will continue.
We will be commencing concrete works to the retaining walls in the Fibreline and Alllotment area.
The Cricket Club wall will be dismantled.

Anticipated disruption to traffic during the next few Sundays from Sunday 7th July.

Temporary traffic signals will be in operation on Hard Ings Road on Sunday 7th July. Over the next few following Sundays we will be installing several ducts right across Hard Ings Road which are required for future traffic signal and street lighting work as well as diversions of existing Openreach (BT) cables and power cables. Traffic signals will be in operation each Sunday to enable us to carry out the duct crossings in 2 halves to enable us to keep the road open during these works.
