17 January 2020

Newsletter No 19. Week commencing Monday 20th January. Weeks 38 - 39.

(First published Friday 17th Jan)

Welcome to your nineteenth newsletter providing you with information regarding the Hard Ings Road Improvement scheme in Keighley.
We now have over 1,000 subscribers to this newsletter! We hope you continue to find it useful.

Progress, the past 2 weeks

We've cleared vegetation and the vehicle crash barrier on the narrow verge of the A629. We have also installed duct and chambers for the traffic signal controls.
The steps into Fibreline are looking good.
We're completing the stone setts to the maintenance bay area of the roundabout, reusing the setts from the adjacent central reservation we are removing.
Yorkshire Water are still on site completing their works.
Northern Powergrid have commenced pulling new cables into the new ducts and trenches for their diversions.

The next 2 weeks

Works to the verge of the A629 including replacement of the vehicle crash barrier and provision of new street lights, and the narrow widening of Lane 1.
Recommencement of the Hard Ings Road drainage installation, now that some areas of service diversion are complete.
Continuation of works to the realigned Hard Ings Road central reservation.
Continuation of diversion works by Yorkshire Water and Northern Powergrid

Hard Ings Road scheme delays

Some of you may have read the press article this week in the Keighley News regarding the delays to the scheme.

We confirm the scheme has been hit by delays. Along with various other challenges in the project, the Public Utility diversions ( water, gas, BT, power etc) required in order to widen the road were much more complex and involved than originally appreciated.

Utility Diversions are a key stage in road works schemes and the construction programme is developed around the information provided by the Public Utility Companies before the works commence.

When these works become more complex it has an effect on the whole programme which unfortunately has resulted in the delay to the end date of this scheme. Please be assured that we have been working constantly with these companies to try and reduce the impact they are having.

To further mitigate this delay I can tell you that we are working with Bradford Council to look into areas of the scheme we can accelerate to claw back some time.
Once this has been concluded we will be in a position to publish the new completion date which will be published in this newsletter.

Affected bus routes on Lawkholme Lane

The following diversions remain in place by the bus companies previously using the now closed Lawkholme Lane junction.

Hard Ings Road/Lawkholme Lane, Keighley - P23 Steeton Primary

Route P23 for Steeton Village Primary School will have an amended route. There will be no pick up on Lawkholme Lane.
AM: the bus will start at the bus stop on Skipton Road at East Avenue (08:22) then along Skipton Road to Devonshire Street and the usual route thereafter. Therefore the bus will not operate along Lawkholme Lane.
PM: as per the usual route from the school as far as the roundabout at Skipton Road/Hard Ings then continue along Skipton Road (16:10 at East Avenue) toward Devonshire Street and the usual route thereafter.
Those passengers who usually board or alight at the stops at the top of Lawkholme Lane near Hard Ings are advised to use the bus stop on Skipton Road at East Avenue.
This amendment will continue for the duration of the works at Hard Ings or until such time the turn restriction is lifted.

K17 Keighley Jets Service

The K17 service will have an amended route. It will not use Lawkholme Lane, beyond Bradford Street. It will also not use Royd Way and Royd Ings Avenue for the period of the Lawkholme Lane Closure.
A new stop will be in place near ASDA for the diverted route.
K17 Divert via Bradford Street, Brown Street, Bingley Street (Outbound temporary bus stop near ASDA), Bradford Road A6035 and Alston Road.
