Greengates Junction Newsletter No 3

04 September 2020

Newsletter No 3. Week Commencing Monday 26th August. First published Friday 21st August 2020

This newsletter is to provide you with an update on the Greengates Junction Improvement works.

Progress, the past two weeks

Preparation for the attenuation tank to the P-Loop area.

Over the past two weeks, we have worked exceptionally hard on the P-Loop zone and commenced excavation works to reduce the level of this area. This has enabled us to start installing attenuation drainage (pictured above). We have also started to remove the masonry walls in the P-Loop area and along New Line and are looking forward to reusing these stones to form new walls later in the scheme.

Masonry and tree removal along New Line.

We have also continued work to the new entrance of Farmfoods on Harrogate Road between Chilli Chicks and A Smith Opticians, including kerbing and drainage installation. This will be surfaced in the coming weeks.

The next two weeks

Preparation for the foundation of a new wall to the rear of the P-Loop area is underway.

We are looking forward continuing the installation of deep attenuation tanks in the P-Loop area which will provide a storage system for rain water and surface water once complete. Works are also underway to create the foundation of a new wall to the rear of the P-Loop area as you enter the junction from Harrogate Road, opposite Aldo's Italian. Passers-by can expect to see this wall take shape over the next few weeks.

Along New Line, we will be undertaking preparation works to form the new kerb line on the left hand side of the road opposite Asda and installing the realigned retaining walls to replace those which were previously removed.

Preparation for the foundation of a new wall to the rear of the P-Loop area is underway (left). Work to the new Farmfoods entrance is ongoing (right).

Work to the new Farmfoods entrance will be ongoing, including drainage and kerb installation. Please note that pedestrian and traffic management measures will be in place at this location as we form the bell mouth to the new entrance (more info below). Once this is complete, the existing entrance to Farmfoods will be closed and vehicles will instead be directed to use the new entrance between Chilli Chicks and A Smith Opticians.

Traffic Management

Please note traffic management measures will be in place on Harrogate from Room 907 up to the arm of the junction. The inner lane will be closed for the next two weeks to provide pedestrians with a temporary walkway and to give us a safe working area for operatives to form the bell mouth of the new Farmfoods entrance. This lane will open up ahead of the traffic lights, meaning vehicles are still able to turn left with ease.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding and patience as we undertake these necessary works to make Greengates a safer place.
