Germany Beck

Newsletter 24

02 May 2017

Weeks 47 & 48 commencing 1st May 2017

This is the 24th edition of the newsletter that keeps you up to date with the progress of the Germany Beck junction works on the A19 in Fulford.

During the past 2 weeks we have been continuing the construction of the capping beam along the top of the piles. We have now progressed to the section of the junction between Fordlands Road and the A19.

The capping beam has been closely followed by the installation of kerbs and gullies to both sides of the junction.

We have been placing topsoil to banks of the carriageway and will continue with this these next coming weeks.

During the next 2 weeks we will -

• Continue the concrete capping beam which sits on top of the sheet piled wall to the west of Fordlands Road
• Continue to install kerbs and gullies and trim stone to the new spine road to the east and west of Fordlands Road
• Install ducts around the new junction for BT
• Tie in the kerbs of the future Fordlands Road Junction into Fordlands Road
• Commence the lowering and protection of BT cables adjacent to the A19
• Locate the gas main within the A19 carriageway.
• Topsoil carriageway banks

The closure of the eastern footpath on the A19 remains in place.

WARNING - INTERMITTENT USE OF TEMPORARY TRAFFIC LIGHTS ON FORDLANDS ROAD AND THE A19 OVER THE NEXT 2 WEEKS

Fordlands Road - We need to tie in the new kerb alignment of the future Fordlands Road junction into the existing kerbline adjacent to the Beck culvert. In order to provide a safe working zone for our workforce we will be utilising temporary traffic control on Fordlands Road, during the day only, for about 3 to 4 days.

A19 - We need to locate a gas main in the A19 northbound carriageway adjacent to our site. To do this we need to excavate a trench through the northbound carriageway, therefore preventing use of the north bound carriageway for that day. Temporary traffic lights will be in operation during off peak times for 1 - 2 days only, depending on how quickly we can locate the gas main. We will backfill the trench and take off the temporary traffic lights for the evening rush hour traffic if this operation takes more than one day. This is programmed to take place on Wednesday 3rd May.

Provision for pedestrians and others using the footpaths will be maintained during both of these operations. Please follow the directions provided by the signs.

We apologise for any inconvenience for those delayed due to the traffic lights.

Safety for children and the wider public.

Please be assured that the different areas of works will be securely fenced at all times to ensure the safety of the public.

We will be receiving deliveries to site this week. Each delivery will be guided into site by one of our employees once traffic and pedestrians are clear from the site entrance. Please be patient if you are held up for a short time whilst these manoeuvres take place.

Pedestrians will be given right of way along the footpaths of Fordlands Road but please be aware of deliveries using the entrances to site off Fordlands Road on occasion.
