Gateway 36 Newsletter No 5

05 March 2021

Gateway 36 Newsletter No 5 Week commencing Monday 8th March. First published Friday 5th March.

Welcome to the Gateway 36 e-newsletter. Each fortnight, these e-newsletters will provide you with updates on progress, traffic management and any potential disruption surrounding the Gateway 36 development in Rockingham. Please note these works will be ongoing until Summer 2021.

Progress, the past two weeks

Traffic management measures have been in place on Dearne Valley Parkway Westbound from Monday 11th January to enable the construction of a new access road off Shortwood Roundabout.

Works have continued to form this new access road, including the laying of stone, kerbs and gullies. This work will continue to progress and will include the installation of ducting for incoming services (such as street lighting, electric, water mains) and the final trimming of stone ahead of tarmac being laid later this month.

We have also commenced works to form the new S278 roundabout which will facilitate Phase 3 of the Gateway 36 scheme adjacent to the east-bound Dearne Valley Parkway.

On the main Gateway 36 development, we have recommenced major earthworks and have continued drainage works such as the installation of an outfall from the new attenuation pond and a ditch diversion from the western side of the site to the existing pond.

The next two weeks

Please note current traffic management measures are to remain in place in the current layout with a single-lane closure for the westbound lane approaching and exiting Shortwood Roundabout for the next three-to-four weeks. Please contact RTS on 01724 848 246 if there is an out of hours emergency with the traffic management.

Over the next two weeks we will continue work to form the new access road off Shortwood Roundabout. Once these works are complete, we will be able to lay tarmac on the new access road. This will enable us to open the new functionable entrance to site and hopefully minimise disruption to the residents of Hoyland.

We will also continue work to form the new S278 roundabout which will include the installation of surface water drainage. This installation will involve pre-case concrete headwalls and 600mm concrete pipes which will collect surface water from the new roundabout once it is in operation.

On the main site, earthworks and work to form the new attenuation ponds will continue as normal. We expect the pond liner and topsoil works to be carried out in April to complete both ponds.
