Gateway 36 Newsletter No 2
First published Friday 22nd January

Each fortnight, these e-newsletters will provide you with updates on progress, traffic management and any potential disruption surrounding the Gateway 36 development in Rockingham.

Progress, the past two weeks

Traffic management measures have been in place on Dearne Valley Parkway Westbound from Monday 11th January to enable the construction of a new access road off Shortwood Roundabout.

We have commenced work to form this access road, including excavation which will enable us to form the new entrance to the development, and have exposed several live services which we will be diverting in the weeks to come.

Adverse weather conditions have unfortunately impeded progress to the scheme as we regrettably had to pause operations on Thursday 14th and Friday 15th January due to heavy snow. Please rest assured that every effort is being made to overcome these setbacks and minimise prolonged disruption to local residents and commuters.

The next two weeks

Please note that current traffic management measures will remain in place over the next two weeks.

During this period, we will continue work to construct the new access road off Shortwood Roundabout, including stone and surface water drainage, and prepare for the installation of kerbing and path edgings.

Northern Powergrid, in conjunction with Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, will be removing and relocating three existing streetlights in the week commencing Monday 25th January.

We will also continue ongoing work on the Gateway 36 development, including installing surface water drainage systems and headwalls to the new attenuation ponds.

Gateway 36 achieves 'very good' compliance score from Considerate Constructors' Scheme

Our Gateway 36 site has achieved a fantastic score following a review from the Considerate Constructors’ Scheme.

The site was assessed by the scheme and monitored for our performance against the five sections of the Code of Considerate Practice; caring about our appearance, respecting the community, protecting the environment, securing everyone’s safety, and valuing our workforce.

Donating essential food, toiletries and cash to Barnsley Food Bank last month
We are pleased to say that Gateway 36 scored highly - operating well beyond the minimum requirements - owing to our fantastic workforce (60% of whom are local tradesmen), our efforts to source materials and supplies from local businesses, and our commitment to giving back to the local community.
