Victoria Gate

Value: £4.7million
Location: Leeds
Contract Period: 18 months
Contract Type: Bespoke subcontract

In 2014, Sir Robert McApline was awarded the prestigious Victoria Gate Development in Leeds City Centre by Hammerson, the retail property developer. Now complete, the Victoria Gate development in Leeds houses a flagship 21,000m² John Lewis store along with an elegantly designed two-street arcade with 30 stores, restaurants, cafes and a casino. A multi-storey car park also provides spaces for up to 800 cars.
Howard Civil Engineering were subsequently awarded the drainage and sub structure and super structure civils works. Key constraints in the development of this city-centre were its proximity to local businesses, working alongside other contractors, and utilising every square metre of developable footprint of this valuable retail site. The programming and sequencing of the various phases has been paramount.
