In November 2020, Howard Civil Engineering commenced work on a £2.25m bespoke package on the Rother Living development for our client, Willmott Dixon. 

The Rother Living development is a program by Rotherham Council to introduce a mixture houses and apartments for council housing, shared ownership, and affordable sale in Rotherham. The program consists of three sites: Westgate Riverside, Westgate Millfold House, and the former Henley's Garage site on Wellgate. Upon completion, these three sites will present 184 new homes covering public realm, apartments, modern 'back-to-back' houses, and terraces.

Howard Civil Engineering are delighted to be providing a multi-disciplined civil engineering package on the Westgate Riverside and Westgate Millfold House schemes which will take approximately 63 weeks to deliver. 

Rother Living is our fifth project for Willmott Dixon, following the successful delivery of products and services on projects such as Bader Academy in Doncaster and The Futurist in Scarborough. Willmott Dixon subsequently approached us for this project earlier in 2020, recognising that Howard Civil Engineering could offer a successful multi-disciplined approach which could significantly reduce the number and severity of complications and challenges associated with the various interfaces.

 

Scope of works

  • Early Contractor Engagement to rationalise the scheme, highlight areas of risk, and provide robust cost advice
  • Retaining structures and capping beams adjacent the River Don
  • Various retaining wall solutions on a topographically challenged site
  • Offsite sewer connections including a complex S185 sewer diversion
  • Traffic management measures
  • Large diameter pre-cast concrete storage pipes with associated manholes 
  • Foundations and associated works to houses and apartments to suit various ground conditions i.e. piled, mass fill, raft
