Background

As part of the ongoing expansion of Monks Cross Retail Development, Howard Civil Engineering successfully supported Caddick Construction in the £40m development of Vangarde Shopping Centre.
 
The project covered 339,000sq ft and used over 1,400 tonnes of steel. It was the second key project in which we successfully supported Caddick Construction.
 
The development includes a flagship John Lewis store alongside M&S and Next. 1,000 jobs were generated by this project and it has injected an estimated £14m a year into York's economy.

Scope of works

  • Planning and admin – Significant value engineering to materials to drainage and hard landscaping, fully phased plans and programmes including weekly progress reports
  • Reinforced concrete – Pilecaps, ground beams, lift pits, travellator pits
  • Drainage - Extensive surface water and foul water network of drainage and manholes up to 6m deep, various interceptors, headwalls
  • Services – Extensive network of ducting and main installations and chambers
  • Hard landscaping – Numerous kerbs, edgings, paving products, bollards and street furniture
