As part of the ongoing expansion of Monks Cross Retail Development, Howard Civil Engineering Ltd successfully supported Caddick Construction in the £40 million development of this mammoth retail hub. The project, developed by the Oakgate Group, covers 339,000sq ft and used over 1,400 tonnes of steel. It is the second key project in which we have successfully supported Caddick.
The development includes a flagship John Lewis store alongside Marks and Spencers and Next. Smaller food outlets will also open shortly including Prezzo and Giraffe. 1,000 jobs have been generated by this project and has injected an estimated £14million a year into York's economy.
“Having the support of Howards on a prestigious scheme like the one at Monks Cross has been invaluable. Howards have been extremely pro-active in identifying Value Engineering opportunities which have provided efficiencies in costs and programme, allowing us to handover the John Lewis Building on time.”
- Chris De Whytell, Senior Contracts Manager at Caddick Construction
