Work on this huge £100m redevelopment of Edge Lane Retail Park which will see the opening of 41 new shops and create 3,000 jobs commenced earlier this summer. The site’s owner, The Derwent Group, has appointed contractors Caddick Construction to build the shopping park.
When complete the shopping and leisure development, occupying three quarters of a mile of frontage onto Edge Lane, will be known as Liverpool Shopping Park and have parking for 1500 cars.
The 'Western Quarter' forms the first phase of the development and where Howard Civil Engineering will commence with a ground works package for Caddick Construction in December.
The site on Edge Lane has an interesting previous history of a variety of heavy industrial and light industry uses and hence contained a substantial volume of potentially contaminated made ground. Through collaborative working with the client we recognised the opportunity in undertaking further testing of the material to potentially reduce the hotspot areas thus reducing volumes of made ground to be disposed of site subject to landfill tax. We also established a procedure to minimise cross contamination during the work ensuring arisings generated were stockpiled separately according to test results received. We value engineered to re-use as much material of the made ground as possible and minimise the volume for disposal off site.
