In 2014 BAM Construction was awarded the contract to build a £14 million school on the site of the former Don Valley athletics stadium in Sheffield.

The single building, which has created a facility for 1,200 pupils aged 2 to 16, featuring a four-storey secondary school, a two-storey primary school and a central event hub opened to school children in September 2015.

The scheme is targeted a rating of Very Good through sustainability initiative BREEAM.

Howard Civil Engineering carried out the substructure, drainage and external works packages including 278 Works to realign local roads and junctions and provide crossing points.

Scope of works

on a labour and plant basis, include

  • Substructure civils works including 1,328m3 concrete.
  • Structural Screed to floors
  • 1,200m surface water drainage
  • 1,650m2 paving
  • 3,200m2 bituminous surfacing
  • 278 Works
