Howard Civil Engineering have commenced a contract to deliver the civils elements to the upgrade of an existing Yorkshire Water Waste Water Treatment Facility in Clayton West, West Yorkshire.

This is one of a series of upgrades to be carried out by the client, Morgan Sindall Sweco JV over the next few years as part of a Framework Contract with Yorkshire Water.

The existing sewage treatment works at Clayton West serves a current population equivalent of around 17,600. The existing sewage treatment facility is to be upgraded to accommodate future growth within the catchment, to improve process treatment, and to meet new regulatory standards.

Scope of works

The proposed works consists of the civils element of the upgrade that is required to the treatment facility. Further suppliers, employed by the client, will be responsible for the supply of plant and equipment to be installed on completion of the civils works.
In brief the civils package includes the works to provide the following

  • 9m x 9m x 3m deep reinforced concrete tank
  • 8m deep shaft driven wet well
  • Associated 500mm and 150mm dia ductile iron gravity pipework and associated manholes
  • Various other overflow structures
  • Equipment plinths and bases
  • Communication ducts and chambers
  • Associated access roads and footpaths.
  • Site wide landscaping.
