Background

Bader Academy, a new SEN (Special Educational Needs) School in Edenthorpe, Doncaster, encompasses almost 34,000² ft and offers provision for 100 pupils between the ages of 5-19 in addition to 50 members of staff.

Supporting facilities include a sports pitch, multi-use games area and specialist teaching facilities. The building also includes user-specific provisions such as sensory rooms, soft play and calm rooms.

Included in the package of works were the foundation and drainage works, the installation of services and reinforced ground floor slabs, the creation of access roads and a car park and, finally, topsoiling and hard landscaping.

This is our fourth project for Willmott Dixon in Yorkshire following successful projects such as University Centre Rotherham and The Futurist, Scarborough.

Howard Civil Engineering completed work on this project in October 2020.

  • Supporting Willmott Dixon through the tender process in exploring numerous value engineering solutions
  • Developing a robust build programme
  • Archaeological investigation in advance of the main works
  • Foundations
  • Drainage works, including an attenuation tank and interceptor
  • Reinforced ground floor slabs
  • Services (both trench work and ducting)
  • External hard landscaping
  • Access road and car park, including kerbing and sub-base trim 
  • Topsoiling
