Background:

Howard Civil Engineering Ltd were awarded the construction of the concrete abutments to this road bridge by Hochtief/Buckingham Group JV, as part of their A57 Road Improvement Scheme. 

The A57 Road Improvement Scheme forms part of the overall Salford Gateway project, which will transform a vacant degraded site, creating thousands of new jobs over its development lifespan and raising the profile of the City of Salford. The plans for the site incorporate GBP 138 million Port Salford, Salford City Stadium and Stadium Retail Centre.

The A57 Road Improvement Scheme was completed in summer 2014.

Scope Of Works:

  • Planning and Administration – Programming and Sequencing of Operations to utilise a Mobile Crawler Crane to its maximum potential.
  • RC Works – Initial package was to construct the Bridge Abutments the A57 Rail Bridge consisting of Heavily Reinforced Abutment Foundation Bases and 7.0m High RC Abutment and Wing Walls
